Who's Who in the Wacky World of Death Jr.
Text by Backbone Entertainment, Art by Hai!
Death Jr. is an ordinary kid on the inside and doesn’t understand that he’s different. He has asthma, yeah, but his dad goes to work just like all the other kids’ dads, only his dad happens to be the Grim Reaper. He is the extraordinary placed in very normal situations. A walking dichotomy, he’s positive, upbeat, fairly normal kid that everyone would really like, if he weren’t the son of Death. He loves his parents and friends, and looks up to his dad. He doesn’t TRY to stand out, and he doesn’t yearn to be normal. He’s a bit oblivious to it all.
Pandora is an individual. She is curious, fearless, stubborn, driven,
and has very poor impulse control. She doesn’t look for trouble, but it
sure knows how to find her, and she never shies away from it. She knows
her tastes are not normal, and doesn’t care. She doesn’t want to flaunt
her style she just wants to be able to do what she wants to do, which is
satisfy her insatiable curiosity. If there is a door closed, a locker
locked, or a hallway hidden, Pandora will be hooked. Death being the
greatest mystery of all, she’s mesmerized by it. A fascination with
death and a unique individuality = a poster child for the perky-goths.
She’s single minded, confident, inquisitive, and upbeat. She doesn’t
follow anyone’s rules but her own and is fiercely loyal to her friends.
Seep is aware he’s a freak and is bitter about it. He is direct and honest and says the stuff everyone is thinking but no one dares to say. Which is another way of saying “rude.” He doesn’t try to be mean, he just doesn’t care if anyone is offended, as long as he’s speaking the truth.
Stigmartha loves school, which alone makes her an outcast. She’s a sympathetic character; whereas most girls would WANT to be Pandora, they more probably ARE Stigmartha. She is shy and doesn’t like being the center of attention, but loves to shine through her writing. She has a heart full of kindness, and hangs out with the ‘undesirable crowd’ out of a distain for the ordinary, and an appreciation of the individal. Unfortunately she bleeds from her hands when she gets nervous, which is often. She loves reading and learning, is an avid writer, and only respects authority if they earn it.
Smith and Weston share one doubly large brain, and having four hands at their disposal, Smith and his brother Weston are born inventors. That’s the kind of hand-eye coordination you don’t see every day. Weston provides the logic and Smith the random creativity. Sometimes they don't get along, but it's hard to have any alone time when you're joined at the head.
