Mmmm... I've always wondered how the licensing business works.. And after reading this, some questions seem to be answered and others seem to appear. But I think I'll leave it like that...
Sounds like a hard but fun job. _________________ [signature] |

Ask your questions here, my friend, and maybe I'll address them the next time I talk about licensing. After all, this is only "Part 1"

Very interesting reading. A bit of a catch-22 in that you had to find someone with licensing experience in order to get licensing experience.
Do the Japanese place much importance on whether or not a potential licensor plans to censor a manga? I'm sure this varies from license to license, but on the average is it important to them?
Also, without naming names, could you give us a few examples of the cut throat nature of licensing? I'd certainly like to know how exactly companies conduct corporate warfare. _________________ Someday Yuri will overcome Yaoi!

I read this reeeeaaaallllyyyy interesting Manga about an unsuspecting tattoo enthusiast who's Chinese tattoo is marred by an ego-maniac tattoo artist who not only mis-translated the tattoo but also inscribed his own initials into the guys back.
Of course hilarity ensues.
I forgot the exact name, I think it's kung fu, manchu...tattoo...something or other.
I hear it's being adapted into a stage play starring Maggie Q and William Hurt as the artist.
Would you be open to licensing some really out there ideas? |
